Why we’re underdiagnosing autistic girls | R.AGE

Autistic girls have a much higher risk of mental health and psychiatric disorders than neurotypical girls, especially if they’re not diagnosed. So why is it so hard to get that diagnosis?

In this video we spoke to Autistic self-advocate Beatrice Leong, who is the co-founder of Austism Inclusiveness Direction Action (AIDA) Group, and the Samuel family, who have two autistic children.

We also went to meet Hospital Pulau Pinang’s Developmental Pediatrician, Dr Sathyabama Ramachandran and Hospital Sungai Buloh pediatrician, Dr Zahilah Filzah, founder of The Ark Autism Centre.
