‘I have spent a lifetime’ – a poem by LS

Hi everyone,

We were recently sent a poem by someone who had their assessment at Axia. I thought some of you might relate to their words and so asked permission to share.

I have spent a lifetime
Not being understood
Acting or behaving in
A way I thought I should

I have spent a lifetime
Crying out for help
Tears, mistakes and failures
And bullying myself

I have spent a lifetime
Shrouded in such grief
Mourning for some unknown truth
And clutching this belief

That I was somehow damaged
Broken, wrong or weak
Masking who I was inside
And so afraid to speak

I have spent a lifetime
Burying my pain
Waiting for the afterlife
And freedom from life’s drain

I now have this moment
To see all that I am
To move away from my facade
And end my stressful scam

I now have this moment
To be all I can be
With precious understanding of
How to live like me
