“So you have an ASD?”

autism-meterI wonder how people generally react to the news that you have an ASD. Personally I get the response ‘oh you’re only slightly autistic’. Or ‘there’s nothing wrong with you’. Or ‘you have your little difficulties’. I’m sorry but I have an Autism Spectrum Disorder!
An university professor I know said ‘autism shouldn’t be pathologised. It’s just one end of a spectrum of normality’. I’m sorry but I’m different! We’re different. And we ARE a community who are listening and processing things in our own unique ways.
