Bev Lonergan, our domestic assistant, alerted me to a BBC news item regarding autistic people and people with learning disabilities. On the Victoria Derbyshire Show, Jane Harris from the National Autistic Society explained there are 700,000 children and adults in the UK with this life-long disability. She went on to talk about how the virus is affecting autistic individuals, families feeling forgotten, not being able to visit care homes, the huge problems if an autistic person has to isolate within a care home, or remain in their own home without carers, creating challenging times and problems. There was a discussion about how testing could happen for autistic people. They felt there was no guidance from government. Apparently the government statement was:
“We are continuing to develop autism and learning disability specific guidance and it will create access to online support”.
The Dept. of Health and Social Care.
Families continue to feel let down by the system and are feeling as isolated as by the virus itself.Tune in to Calvin’s YouTube channel for tonights stream which will be Spyro.
