World’s First Autism-Certified Theme Park

Sesame Place Is the Worlds First Autism-Certified Theme Park

Exciting news for all fans of Elmo, Big Bird and the gang: Sesame Place is officially autism-certified.

Working with the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards, the Sesame Street–themed amusement park in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, is actually the first theme park ever to bear the “Certified Autism Center” qualification.

What exactly does that mean? For starters, at least 80 percent of the park staff will receive specialized training (in areas such as communication, motor skills and sensory and emotional awareness) in order to meet the needs of all children, especially those with special needs…

Chester would make a great location for an inclusive theme park, but it occurs to me that it probably already has such an attraction in its renowned zoo. I must admit I was really thinking that a place with an emphasis on the environment was preferable to a media offshoot. With Calvin being interested in the subject of animal behaviour and media, it wouldn’t altogether surprise me to find that AXIA already has some connections to the zoo or similar places where behaviours can be reflectively observed. If so, I reckon you should be giving yourselves a bit more publicity and credit for it. 😉

Me, I have always preferred the sort of nature reserves which abound in the UK, as places to enjoy the environment and get away from it all.

    Thank you for your comments.

Calvin did work with Chester Zoo when he was studying.

We agree that nature reserves are a lovely relaxing way of enjoying the environment.
